Kihei is a small tourist city. Excepting its inexpensive hotels and restaurants, Kihei also offers a significant number of beaches, ocean swimming, scuba diving and other marine activities. At the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, one of the world's most important whale habitats designated to protect the endangered humpback whale, tourists can learn about the marine life in the Hawaiian Islands. The sanctuary also hosts an impressive variety of marine animals, corals and plants that can be found nowhere else on Earth.
